Republic of Ireland will be playing for pride in their final group-stage match against Nigeria today as they have been already eliminated in the 2023 Women's FIFA World Cup. They will, therefore, be looking forward to ending their campaign with a win when they take on Nigeria today. Taking into account that this is Ireland's first World Cup, the mere fact that they made it to the showpiece event is a success in itself despite the fact that they have faced defeat in their first two games. Their campaign began with a narrow 1-0 defeat to co-hosts Australia before they again failed to be victorious against Olympic champions Canada. Although their journey in this World Cup is coming to an end today, Ireland will still be desperate to record their ever first win at the Women's World Cup when they take on Nigeria. 

Nigeria on the other hand will be looking to seal themselves a place in the elimination rounds and only a win can guarantee them that. They are currently enjoying a dream tournament after producing stellar performances against Canada and Australia to collect four points up to this stage of the campaign. They demonstrated their defensive resilience when they held Canada to a goalless draw and showed their attacking prowess in the Thursday meeting against Australia. There is no doubt that they will be looking to go as far as they possibly can in this tournament and a win today against the Republic of Ireland will help them propel that ambition.
