sokapro-Who will progress to the elimination rounds of the World Cup as Canada take on co-hosts Australia?

The Canadian and Australian women's team will battle it out for a place in the knockout rounds when they go head to head against each other on Melbourne in the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Canada currently sits at position 2 in group B one point above the tournament cohosts Australia who are at position 3. After being held to a barren draw by Nigeria in their opening match, Canada fought it off against the Republic of Ireland to claim a resounding win. The Canadians are hoping to make it out of the World Cup group stages for the third consecutive time and they can draw confidence from their unbeaten start to their campaign. They now only require at least a point to guarantee their place in the last 16 meaning they will have to settle for nothing less than a stalemate because defeat will leave them hoping that Ireland beat Nigeria and a favourable swing in goal differences in the other match in their group in order for them to sail through.

Australia got off to a perfect start with a narrow 1-0 win over Ireland but Nigeria dented their hopes for an easy qualification to the elimination rounds after they stunned the World Cup cohosts to a shocking defeat. The African giants took Australia by surprise in the second half of their game as they netted twice in seven minutes to secure a resounding 3-1 victory. If Australia want to guarantee themselves a place in the round of 16, then they have no option but to claim a win since they are already one point a drift from Canada and Nigeria. If they are able to progress to the last 16, then it will be the fifth consecutive time they will be able to pull such a move. If they draw against Canada, however, they then will be hoping that Nigeria beat Ireland with at least a 2 goals margin.
