Dutch football authorities have confirmed that the abandoned match between Ajax and Feyenoord will resume behind closed doors on Wednesday. Feyenoord were 3-0 up against Ajax at Johan Cruyff Arena on Sunday when the game was abandoned at the 56th minute as Ajax fans threw flares and fires onto the pitch. The referee was forced to lead the squads from both sides off the pitch and police had to take action when furious Ajax fans tried to storm the stadium after the game had been abandoned. The match will now be completed tomorrow with no fans in attendance. The Dutch FA (KNVB) have rescheduled Ajax's match against Volendam to accommodate the rearranged fixture.

Ajax have, however, taken issue with the decision, claiming it will cause fixture congestion issues. The team believe that the earliest the Feyenoord match should be resumed is during the first week of November. Ajax club statement read: “The competition and cup program is now being adjusted by the KNVB for four clubs due to the completion of an abandoned match. Not only the clubs but also the supporters are victims of this.” The KNVB released their statement saying that the abandoned Eredivisie game had to be completed 'as soon as possible' to ensure the competition remained fair. The Frustration among Ajax fans, a club that has won the Eredivisie title for a record 36 times boiled over on Sunday after an underwhelming start to the new season. The Dutch giants missed the UEFA Champions League qualifications last season and have only managed one win this season under the new manager Maurice Steijn.
