The Roma manager says that he is enduring his worst start to a season as his side lost 4-1 against Genoa leaving them at position 16 on the league table just two sports above the relegation zone.

After Roma's defeat by Genoa, Jose Mourinho said that this season has seen him endure the worst start to a season of his coaching career. The Portuguese tactician has previously managed Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Tottenham and was appointed the AS Roma coach in 2021. He won the inaugural Europa Conference League Cup as he steered the Italian club to its first trophy in nearly one and a half decades. AS Roma finished sixth in the Italian Serie A last season and were runners-up in the UEFA Europa League losing to Sevilla on penalties.

As Mourinho soaked up the disappointing 4-1 defeat to Genoa, the 60-year-old said: "It's also my worst start to a season as a coach. However, I don't think that Roma has ever appeared in two consecutive European finals. Genoa drew the first blood through Albert Gudmundsson's strike that was neutralized by Roma's Bryan Cristante goal. However, Mateo Retegui, Morten Thorsby, and Junior Messias scored second-half goals for Genoa to give Roma their worst defeat of the season so far. The only league win this season that Roma has managed is the 7-0 victory against Empoli. They, however, also managed to beat Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Europa League.

The next match that Roma will play will be on Sunday at home against Frosinone. "This is the squad we have, for better and worse. We have to move forward - there's no time to lament," said Mourinho. “I might show my feelings behind the scenes because it really affects me emotionally, especially given my relationship with the fans,” he added. “We'll be working hard from tomorrow ahead of our next game. Three points will be at stake - it's not like we're in six-pointer territory already - but it's a huge game for us now,” Mourinho finished.
