Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday while practicing at the University of South California sending his supporters as well as his family into a panic mode. He is, however, out of danger after he was discharged late on Thursday night according to a statement from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Earlier on Thursday LeBron James said his family is “safe and healthy” posting a message of thanks on social media. “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” LeBron James wrote. “We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!” LeBron concluded his statement with his signature hashtag “JamesGang,” a nickname for his nuclear family unit consisting of himself, his wife, and their three children.
Bronny was out of danger by Thursday as he only spent a brief time in the ICU according to Dr. Merije Chukumerije. In a statement issued by the hospital, Dr. Merije said that James was “successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest” thanks to “the swift and effective response by the USC athletics’ medical staff” after the Monday incident. The statement further said; “He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact, and stable. Mr. James was cared for promptly by highly-trained staff and has been discharged home, where he is resting. Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.”
James was due to play for the University of Southern California later this year as he has built a promising basketball career for himself as he tries to step out of his father's shadow. His father is the biggest supporter of his basketball career and he often travels to watch him play even in the middle of the NBA season. “I understand how important fatherhood is, just coming from a no-father household,” said James in May. “We always try to support each other in all our endeavors. I’m only as good as my family.” Le Bron James has also outlined his desire to prolong his basketball career even though he is now 38 years of age and even hopes that one day he will be able to play alongside his son. “My last year will be played with my son,” James said last year. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.” This shows just the extent LeBron can go to as a father just to see his son's basketball star shine brighter than his.
