sokapro-UEFA Champions League: Braga vs Napoli

Serie A title holders Napoli will be bidding to make a perfect start to the UEFA Champions League when they travel to face Portuguese powerhouse Braga.

Napoli enter tonight's contest on the back of a 2-2 Italian League draw against Genoa while Braga suffered a 3-1 defeat in the hands of Farense in the Primeira Liga last time out. Sporting Braga finished in third position in the Portuguese League last season which saw them secure a position in the third qualifying round for the 2023-24 Champions League. They are now in their first UCL fixture since the year 2012. Apart from Napoli, they will also face Union Berlin and Real Madrid in Group C and they will be determined to have a perfect start for their group stage fixtures when they face off with the Italian powerhouse tonight.

Braga are currently in eighth place in the Portuguese League collecting only seven points from five matches played so far. They were last in the group stages of the Champions League during the 2010-11 season where they finished third and dropped to the Europa League where they actually made it to the final of the competition where they lost to fellow Portuguese giants FC Porto. Napoli meanwhile enter the competition having collected seven points from four matches played in the Serie A. They won their third Serie A title last season for the first time since the year 1990. They are also in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the second season running after making it to the quarter-finals last time out.

The Italian powerhouse's last eight spot of last season was the best they have ever performed in the European elite competition. They will now be looking to advance at least to the knockout rounds of this season's campaign. The Italian champions will host Real Madrid in their next game in the section ahead of a trip to Union Berlin. Real Madrid and Napoli are the favorites to progress to the next round in this group but both Braga and Union Berlin can pull a surprise. Napoli will once again be looking for their star player Victor Osimhen to bail them out of the group stages as they kick-start their UCL campaign tonight. The 24-year-old has already netted 3 goals in the Serie A and pressure will be on him to also find the back of the net tonight. The most likely outcome in the fixture is a draw as both teams are very good in both attacking and defending.
